Get back in the game with our specialized sports Physiotherapy services.
Sports Physiotherapy, as the name implies, is Physiotherapy specifically for injuries sustained in sports, or injuries which prevent athletes from performing sports or from living highly active or athletic lifestyles.
All of our Physiotherapists and Athletic Therapists are highly trained professionals in the treatment of musculoskeletal or orthopedic injuries, which means injuries to the joints or soft tissues of your body. These types of injuries can be sustained in sports or athletic endeavours.
At Inertia Physio+, our sports injury management approach begins with prevention. A visit to your Physiotherapist or Athletic Therapist prior to the start of your sport season, and at the end of it, is an efficient way to ensure you have an optimal and injury free season. Your sports injury prevention assessment will include a complete history of the sport and season as well as a personal history of past sport injuries or pain and any other health or movement related concerns. Throughout your assessment, your Physiotherapist or Athletic Therapist will determine any weaknesses or imbalances in movement between the two sides of your body. They will then make recommendations for ways to address any concerns including sport biomechanics and training recommendations as well as a specific exercise program to address strength, stability and mobility requirements and imbalances.
Throughout your sport season, we suggest being aware of how you feel each day and with each training session. If you are feeling a little tight, we suggest you do some extra rolling and stretching. If rolling and stretching is not helping, we suggest you consult the following list of signs that your tension may be developing into an injury:
If you experience any of these signs, you should consider it a warning that your body is trying to give you and book a follow up appointment with us right away. Injuries are so much faster and easier to correct when caught before or just as they are starting.
Once an injury is sustained in sport, it is important to address it quickly and effectively. Our team is highly trained in dealing with both acute injuries that occur in immediate traumatic injuries as well as chronic overuse injuries that tend to occur gradually over time with either too much volume or intensity of training or improper training techniques. Our thorough assessment will determine the nature and the cause of the problem and our treatment techniques will be combined specifically for you and your injury to ensure we create an optimal healing environment in your body. Our goal is always to return you to your sport as quickly as it is safe to do so.
As with all of our Physiotherapy and Athletic Therapy appointments, your time will be spent one on one with your therapist, without the use of machines or assistants. Treatment will be focused on hands-on therapy to mobilize joints, release soft tissues and restore normal movement mechanics in the injured area. Your Physiotherapist or Athletic Therapist may also consider using taping techniques or suggesting the use an over-the-counter or custom brace or other support that we can supply. Your program will always include corrective exercises that are focused on strength, stability, flexibility and mobility around the injury site and throughout the whole body.
If your sporting organization is interested, one of our Physiotherapists or Athletic Therapists would be happy to come to your training location and offer our expertise in Sports Injury Prevention through presenting on the subject, analyzing movement mechanics on-site and teaching corrective or preventative exercises to your group.
Making Sports Physiotherapy or Athletic Therapy part of your annual plan is an ideal way to ensure you don’t miss out on any of your training or anything important in your sport season!
